Tuttle’s Major Sharp – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Patriot Heat and Air

MAJOR SHARP

Tuttle Tigers

It should come as no surprise that Major Sharp is known as a game changer for the Tuttle Tigers football team, especially when you learn where the name Major originated.

“Football has always been a big thing with our family,” said the two-way standout for the red and white clad Tigers. “My mom is a huge fan of the Texas Longhorns and she named me after former U-T quarterback, Major Applewhite.”

Since he first began playing Tuttle football at age six, the current day senior admits he’s now living his dream.

“My whole life I’ve looked forward to playing football for the Tuttle Tigers on Friday nights.”

The energy and big play impact of Sharp who wears the number-2 jersey is what impresses his coach.

“Major loves the game and has the ability to play just about anywhere on the field and make us a better football team,” said head coach Brad Ballard. “Major plays wide receiver as well some quarterback and rarely leaves the field because he also plays any position in the defensive secondary as well as returns punts and he plays with a whatever it takes to be successful approach.”

Driven to win the state championship in his final season, Major points out how playing football has taught him the importance of life values.

“Football teaches you the value of commitment and hard work.  Nothing comes easy in life, you just have to keep on working no matter the challenge.”

Crediting the influence of family, Major admits he’s learned that trait by example.

“My dad (Trey) works harder than anyone I know every single day,” Major said with heartfelt appreciation. “My dad will never say no to someone in need. He’s the reason I’m the person I am today.”

When he steps away from football practices or film study, it’s playing another sport that he enjoys on “Major time.”

“I love to play golf. It’s the most rewarding and frustrating thing on earth. There’s not a better feeling than a pure golf shot, well except for pick-6 pass interception return.”

Those who know the Tuttle senior best describe Sharp as someone who is motivated, persistent and without question competitive; a trait cherished as an athlete as well in the classroom where Major maintains a 4.1 GPA.

“Being competitive is most important. In sports and in life, no matter how well you prepare, it doesn’t matter if you don’t want to win, believe you will win and then commit to do whatever it takes to achieve your dreams.”
