Newcastle’s Aden Shumard – Athlete Spotlight Presented by Rodney Bradford Farmers Insurance

Aden Shumard, a senior at Newcastle High School, is leaving a significant mark on the
football field during his last season with the Racers.
Throughout his football career, Aden attributes his growth and success to coach Ryan
Corbin. “Coach Corbin coached me in football from 8th grade to my junior year,” he said.
“He taught me a lot during those four years, and even though he’s not coaching me this
year, he still consistently reaches out to support me and help me improve.”

In his journey, Aden had a remarkable source of admiration and support: his older brother.
“A teammate of mine that I admire the most is my older brother,” Aden said. “My freshman
year, I had the opportunity to share one season playing alongside my brother. I was able to
learn a lot from him and his senior class. We missed two games that season because of
COVID. This group of seniors had to play through a lot of adversity that year, but ultimately
led Newcastle to their first playoff run in six years.”
Aden’s academic life was equally influenced by a dedicated teacher, Kevin Jones. “Mr. Jones
is not only a great teacher but also a great person as well,” he said. “He always works hard
to ensure his students receive the best education possible.”
Aden is aware of the lessons he’s learned from football that extend beyond the field. “One of
the biggest lessons that I have learned while playing football is the importance of
teamwork,” he said.
This year, as a senior, Aden’s goal is clear: to win the state championship. As the stakes are
higher than ever, Aden’s determination to lead his team to victory is unwavering.
Looking forward to the season, Aden is most excited about the matchup against Tuttle in
week nine. It’s a game that promises excitement and challenges, and Aden is ready to rise
to the occasion.
As for his plans after high school, Aden aspires to attend one of the U.S. Service Academies
and pursue a degree in political science. His commitment to excellence on and off the field
sets a promising path for his future.
