Newcastle’s Ava Miller – Cheer Spotlight – Presented by Xtreme Outdoor Equipment

Outdoor Power

When Ava Miller started cheering 13 years ago, she didn’t know if she would every cheer on the sideline of her high school football games. She did know that she loved the sport and wanted to be one of those cheerleaders on Friday night.

“Cheerleading is special because it allows us to show our school spirit, support our team to another level, and allows us to learn leadership skills,” said Miller.

Learning new skills and continuing to develop as a cheerleader is something Miller enjoys about the sport. The area she has most improved in is her flying.

“I got the opportunity to try a new skill last November and I’ve loved every minute of it, and it drives me to work hard every day,” said Miller.

Miller said it’s her teammates that make the moments special.

“The thing I love most about my teammates is how much we support each other and provide the confidence to reach the next level.”

In the classroom, Miller’s favorite subject is Forensics. She said all of her teachers are great and she is looking forward to attending college after high school and possibly being on her collegiate cheer team.

“Hopefully I’m cheering in college and working on my degree for elementary education,” said Miller.

In her free time, Miller likes to hang out with her friends and family, go to the lake, and concerts. She said her parents are a big influence in her life.

“My parents are a big influence. They are hardworking, they keep me motivated and sacrifice a lot for my dreams,” said Miller.
