OUTLOOK
Blanchard girls basketball enters the season with enthusiasm and confidence thanks to a roster that understands its strengths and plays with strong leadership. Head coach David Sikes sees a team anchored by experienced players who embrace their roles and young athletes who elevate the team pace and versatility.
“We have a great group of young ladies returning this season. We will be a solid team with a lot of leadership and experience returning. I believe that this team will accomplish a lot this season after making a run deep into the 1st round of the Area Tournament last season,” coach Sikes said.
Kylann Dobbs (5-4, Sr.) returns at the guard spot where she averaged 6.0 points and 2.0 steals per game last season. Dobbs had some great games last season and enters this year as a VYPE Top 100 selectee.
“Kylann took a huge step forward at the end of the season. She averaged almost 9.0ppg in the final five games of the season including a 20-point game. She is a fierce competitor on defense, giving her opponent relentless pressure on the ball,” coach Sikes said.
Addison Schmidt (5-9, Sr.) is a hybrid type player who is comfortable at guard or forward. Last season Schmidt accounted for 3.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per contest. Jazmyn Haynes (5-5, Jr.) has stepped up as well. Last year she made 7.0 points and 2.0 assists every night.
Karolina Sikes (5-7, Jr.) is one to watch this season. As a sophomore she averaged 4.0 points and 3.0 rebounds a game. Those numbers are likely to climb this season. Also look for Maddy Minton (5-11, Jr.) at forward. Her impact could be felt in the paint as she will likely take on a larger role this season. Finley Lockwood (5-7, So.) is an exciting underclassman who drained 8.0 points and 3.0 rebounds as a freshman.
Young players contribute fresh energy and a fearless approach pushing their teammates and expanding the team versatility. Blanchard plans to lean into its balance effort and chemistry to carve out a strong position in the postseason race.
