NEWCASTLE RACERS
Coach: JEFF BRICKMAN
9-4
OFFENSE
After winning a district title and going 9-4 on the season, Newcastle head coach Jeff Brickman has several players competing for open spots on both sides of the ball. “We have several key players returning from last seasons undefeated 5A-1 District Championship and 5A Semifinal team. We also have several newcomers and position battles going on throughout the summer and fall camps. We return all the coaches from last year’s staff and have added three more coaches,” said coach Brickman. Eight guys are back on offense including Taylor “T.J.” Bradford (5-10, 180, Sr.) at running back. Bradford is a speedy, hard runner who fits well in the pro-style offense the Racers run. Bradford has rushed for over 3,000 yards and 30 TDs. Kaden Longman (5-11, 175, Sr.) and Santorrio Boykins (6-5, 190, Sr.) are two long receivers who bring athleticism and good hands to the passing game. The line is anchored by Blake Allen (6-6, 320, Sr.) and Jace Ledoux (5-10, 280, Sr.). Also look for running back Ben Rogers (5-11, 190, Jr.) to have an impact on the offense this season. With a solid line and multiple personnel fronts, the Racers are a tough to figure out and once the offense gets rolling, they are tough to stop. Korbin Brewer could be the X-factor for the Racer offense this season.
DEFENSE
One of the best open-field tacklers on the team is Bradford who will see time at linebacker or safety. Preston Scagnetti (6-0, 195, Jr.) and Tucker Brown (6-0, 190, Sr.) are two old-school thumpers at linebacker. Both guys pursue the ball and create problems for opposing quarterbacks. The interior of the defensive line features Cody Nix (6-4, 270, Jr.) and Garrett Pratt (6-3, 260, Sr.). Big and physical, both Nix and Pratt enjoy the battle inside and will dominate the interior of the line. Teams will double one of these guys on every play. Jaden Fletcher (6-5, 250, Sr.) is a rangy defensive end who can turn the corner or contain the edge and kick everything back inside to Scagnetti and Brown. Look for the Racers to base in the 4-2-5 with multiple fronts and stunts that keep the offense guessing. Disguised coverages will help a secondary that has a couple of spot to fill. The coaching staff consists of Bo Bradshaw, J.T. Ketch, Judd Wilson, Tylor Engelking, Matt Truelove, Rickey Bradford, Cameron Pound, Quintin Blue, Jason Wilson, Josh Heskew, DaRyan Houser, Quindon Lewis, Kennedy Brooks, and Artie Puckett.
