Q&A with Newcastle’s Leighton Wooten – Cheer Spotlight – Presented by CORE Orthodontics

VYPE: Leighton, how are summer workouts going for the Newcastle cheer team?

Leighton Wooten: Summer workouts have been really beneficial! Every week gets better, and I can see the effort that this team gives out, and I’m so ready to see the growth that we all work very hard for.

VYPE: What skill are you and what are you working to improve?

LW: I am a flyer, and I am working to improve balance and flexibility. I am also looking forward to learning new skills in tumbling and flying.

VYPE: What will the squad look like this year?

LW: Our squad will be great this year, I’m very excited for all of our journeys to come!

VYPE: What’s your message to the team?

LW: I am very excited to experience my last year with all of you. This year already has been different than the rest in so many ways. I hope the pace that us seniors have set for you will last lifetimes and keep our racer spirits accelerating. Eventually, toward the end of the year we will pass the torch, and we hope that our influence will be remembered and embraced as generations keep rising.

VYPE: What do you enjoy most about this group?

LW: What I enjoy most is all of the positivity and perseverance that our squad presents. Through all of our fails and successes, we’ve had each other to lift our spirits and celebrate with. No matter what comes our way, I am confident in my team that we will conquer those battles. Every. Single. Time!

VYPE: Tell us one of your priorities for this year.

LW: One of my priorities is my personal growth and how I can become better for myself mentally and physically. Whether it’s eating better, going to the gym, or just spending time with myself from time to time. I find it important to build up your personal well-being first before you lose yourself trying to build up someone else because you don’t always get it back in return.

VYPE: Which teammate will shock everyone this season?

LW: I feel like Violet Phillips will shock everyone this year. She will definitely be one to watch!

VYPE: How do you want to be remembered as an NHS student-athlete?

LW: I want to be remembered as unpredictable. You never know my next move, but whatever step I take, my footprints will always be there.

VYPE: What would you like to do after you graduate?

LW: After high school I would like to go to college to become a dental hygienist.
