Bridge Creek’s Mila Muro – Basketball Spotlight

Bridge Creek’s Mila Muro

By Ivy Knapp

Bridge Creek junior Mila Muro has played basketball since a very young age. Her parents introduced her to the sport early and she’s stuck with it ever since. That early start built the foundation for the player she is now.

“My parents put me in a YMCA league at the age of four and I have loved it ever since,” she said.

She sees herself as a small forward, a spot that fits her well because of everything it allows her to do. That versatility is a big part of her game, but her confidence comes from the other side of the game.

“I like being able to move all around the floor. I can score offensively, get rebounds and steals defensively,” said Mila. “Defense gives me the most confidence. It has always been my favorite part of the game.”

Mila is spending this season challenging herself to improve in the areas that can take her to another level.

“I’m definitely trying to get better at my mid-range shooting. I usually shoot a three or drive to the basket,” she said, determined to add more versatility to her game.

This year is also her first at Bridge Creek, and her teammates have made the transition easy on her. That support shows up on and off the court.

“What I enjoy most about my teammates is the friendships I have built with them. They always make me laugh and cheer me up if I’m having a bad day,” she says.

On game days, Mila grounds herself through her faith.

“My relationship with God is important. I like to read my Bible. I also like to listen to music to help hype me up,” she explained.

Her mental approach has strengthened over the years too.

“I have grown to realize that I am in control of how I play and I push myself to get better,” Mila said.

She looks up to Dennis Rodman because of his effort and relentlessness. She likes how he’s a hustle player. That same energy shows in moments she’s proud of. It’s uplifting when other coaches or strangers tell her she’s played well. It really encourages her to continue to work harder.

Other than basketball, her favorite subject is history. She finds it fascinating and fun to learn about. Something people may not know is that she’s a Disney fanatic. She visits Disney World every year and always looks forward to it. She also loves playing Roblox and can play it for hours.

As for the future, her goals are set. She wants to help her team make a strong playoff push and eventually reach state. Beyond high school, she hopes to play at a higher level and later become a Pre-K teacher because she loves working with kids.
