Blanchard’s Bailey Uhlenhake – Softball Spotlight – Presented by BoldSpine Chiropractic

Blanchard High School junior Bailey Uhlenhake brings a steady presence and competitive edge to the varsity softball team, balancing leadership behind the plate with a strong support system off the field.

Uhlenhake, a catcher, embraces one of the game’s most demanding roles. She is responsible for managing pitchers, reading situations and directing teammates in real time. “The most difficult thing is staying aware of all situations and leading my team with great direction as well as staying strong and tough behind the plate,” she said.

Her approach is rooted in preparation and mindset. At the plate, Uhlenhake focuses on contributing in whatever way the team needs. “When I step into the box, I am encouraging myself to keep a good mindset to do what’s best for the team in that moment,” she said.

Family plays a central role in her motivation. Uhlenhake credits multiple relatives for shaping her work ethic and outlook. “My whole family inspires me,” she said. “My mom is encouraging and very competitive. My dad keeps me accountable and pushes me to succeed.” She added that her grandparents are constant supporters, often attending games and celebrating her highlights.

Team culture is another driving force. Uhlenhake values the chemistry built through shared experiences, from team dinners to pregame traditions. “The team chemistry, friendships, midnight madness, team dinners and pregame dance party in the locker room” are among her favorite parts of being on the team, she said. She also highlighted teammates Keira Scott for her energy and “Cookie” for keeping the group laughing.

Off the field, Uhlenhake enjoys staying active and spending time with friends. She lists swimming, working out, reading and trips to the lake among her favorite activities. In the classroom, she prefers math, noting that it comes naturally to her.

Uhlenhake said athletics have helped her develop life skills that extend beyond competition. “Work ethic, always look at the bright side and have fun,” she said. “Being a good person not just on the field but also off the field.”
