VYPE: Ava, what position do you play for THA and what do you enjoy most about that spot?
Ava Kanatzar: I am a LHP pitcher and what I enjoy most is spinning the ball, locating my pitches, and keeping the hitters guessing. I like competing against hitters and finding ways to get them out.
VYPE: How have summer workouts gone and are you playing travel ball?
AK: Summer workouts are going great. It’s good to be back with my teammates. My travel ball team is Oklahoma Ultimate Gold and we’re having a great season.
VYPE: What current or former teammate left an impression on you?
AK: Skyler Rodgers left an impression on me because she was a supportive teammate, communicated well, always had a good work ethic, and stayed positive. She pushed everyone around her to be better.
VYPE: What is the strength of your game and what are you looking to improve?
AK: The strength of my game is the mental part. I can stay calm in tough situations and not let it get to me. I continue to work on it daily to keep having a good positive mindset.
VYPE: What lesson did you learn last season that you can use this season?
AK: The lesson I learned is to go out there and not overthink and not let the pressure get to me.
VYPE: What grade are you in this year?
AK: I am a senior.
VYPE: What would you like to do after graduation?
AK: After I graduate, I am planning on going to play college softball at The University of West Alabama. I am going to major in Sports Medicine.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
AK: My parents inspire me because they always believe in me no matter what. They tell me to play with confidence and work hard. They’ve always taught me to have a good work ethic and a positive attitude.
VYPE: What do you love most about this team and your teammates?
AK: What I love most about my team and teammates is that we always push each other to be better players and better teammates. We are a close group that loves to have fun and work hard.
