Newcastle’s Katelyn Crain
For Newcastle High School senior Katelyn Crain, cheerleading is built on trust, energy and the relationships formed with teammates.
A varsity cheerleader for the Lady Racers, Crain serves as a back spot and side base, roles that demand communication, strength and confidence. While she takes pride in her stunting ability, she continues working to improve another aspect of her performance.
“My strength in cheer is by far stunting,” Crain said. “The skill I am working on to improve is my tumbling!”
Crain said the close bond within the Newcastle program is what she values most. The Lady Racers have developed more than team chemistry; they have become a support system for one another.
“The thing I love most about my teammates at Newcastle is how they have turned our team into a family,” Crain said. “We have grown so much together throughout this year, both as a team and individually, and I am so excited to see what the upcoming year holds for us!”
That shared connection is especially evident when the squad is together.
“My positions on the team are back-spot and side base! What I enjoy most about being on this team is the energy we have when were all together,” Crain said. “The way we work together, build off each others energy, and support one another. Its something that makes being a part of this team so special!”
Outside varsity cheer, Crain is a partner on Newcastle’s Unified Cheer team and a member of the Honor Society. She also admires junior Molly Stevens for the energy and resilience she brings to the squad. After graduation, Crain plans to pursue a career as an anesthesiologist.
