Bridge Creek’s Wyatt Leonard
Bridge Creek senior Wyatt Leonard understands how quickly a football season can change.
After tearing his ACL last season, the Bobcats running back was forced to step away from the game he loves and watch from a different perspective. The setback gave Leonard a renewed appreciation for every practice, every rep and every chance to compete for Bridge Creek.
“I tore my ACL last season so it made me appreciate the opportunity to play and compete knowing how fast it all can be taken away,” Leonard said.
Now back on the field, Leonard is working toward returning to his full potential while bringing a relentless approach to the Bobcats’ offense. He said his greatest strength is his determination to keep moving forward, particularly as he continues his recovery.
“I think my strength is I keep going, I never stop, and I am working on getting back to my full potential after the injury,” Leonard said.
Leonard’s motivation extends beyond football. He credits his father with setting an example of how to approach life, competition and responsibility.
“My dad. He shows me what it takes to be the best possible man I can be in everything, not just football,” Leonard said.
The running back also sees value in the leadership examples provided by former Bridge Creek players. Ryan Place, a senior when Leonard was a freshman, made a lasting impression on him as both a player and a person.
“I would have to say Ryan Place. He was a senior when I was a freshman, and I really looked up to him as both a football player and a leader. He taught me a lot of things but mainly the kind of senior I was going to be,” Leonard said.
Bridge Creek has experienced change with a new coaching staff and new faces in the program, but Leonard believes the group has formed a powerful connection. He said the adversity from the previous year has helped the Bobcats become more united.
“How we have overcome what happened last year and have bought into this team without knowing what was to come. All new coaching staff, some new teammates and yet this is the strongest and best bond we have ever had,” Leonard said.
Leonard also wrestles for Bridge Creek and plans to join the Marine Corps after graduation. For now, his focus is on helping his teammates and making the most of every opportunity in a Bobcats uniform.
