Tuttle’s Ava Kanatzar – Softball Spotlight

Tuttle High School senior Ava Kanatzar has learned that success on the softball field involves much more than physical ability. For Kanatzar, the game has taught her the importance of perseverance, confidence and maintaining the right mindset.

“I am a left-handed pitcher, and the most difficult thing is the mental game. You always have to have a positive mindset and confidence,” Kanatzar said.

That mentality has been shaped in part by the people who have supported her throughout her life. Kanatzar credits her parents with teaching her lessons that extend far beyond athletics.

“My parents inspire me because they have always taught me to work hard for what you want in life even when the road gets tough. They’ve taught me that giving up is not an option and to always put God first in my life,” Kanatzar said.

Kanatzar also appreciates the support surrounding the program and the close-knit environment she has experienced in Tuttle.

“I love the community and the people in this town. Everyone always supports and cheers others on,” Kanatzar said.

Away from softball, Kanatzar enjoys spending time with friends, going to the lake and beach, shopping and attending concerts. At school, Spanish and culinary skills are her favorite subjects, while her third-grade teacher, Mrs. DeVault, remains her favorite teacher.

Kanatzar also makes time to give back. She works with younger softball players through her travel organization, Oklahoma Ultimate, and volunteers at the Manna Pantry in Yukon when she has time.

As Kanatzar finishes her senior year, the lessons she has gained through softball remain simple but meaningful.

“To work hard, never give up, and to stay humble. Hard work pays off as long as you keep pushing,” Kanatzar said.
